Hola all,
Hope all is well for everyone up north. I had an amazing weekend down
here in Mexico land. Saturday we went to the renowned silver town of Taxco (pronounced TAHs-co) If the brutality of colonialism ever left a town's posterity with a charming ambiance, it happened in Taxco. The architechture is in the 17th century spanish style.
The streets are cobbled and narrow and steep--some aren't even wide enough for traffic--which is good cause the drivers are not careful. It has a massive 250 year old baroque cathedral which is rather beautiful (for those in the know, it makes St. Tom's look rather like a medieval dungeon) All of this situated on the side of a mountain--great views abound. I spent the afternoon wandering the pleasant streets and enjoying the ambience, shopping a bit--I'm now the proud owner of a $5 mexican hat.
Sunday I spent here in Cuernavaca. Went to the botanical gardens and read for a bit then strolled around town and enjoyed a few cafes.
The only blemish on the weekend was a cloud--it took ten days but I finally saw a cloud--just one--in the sky. Every day is warm and sunny and the evenings cool and pleasant.
That is about all. This weekend some of us are going to Acapulco to sit on the beach.
