Still have no plans for the summer? Looking to embark on an adventure? Join Purdue Professor John Kirby as he takes a group of students to Athens, Greece for 3 weeks this summer. Athens was recently the home of the 2004 Olympics and is a prominent capital city in Greece. The trip will allow for you to earn 3 credits for the class: Land of Gods and Heroes: Greek Mythology in Greece. Three excursions are included in the program: one-day field trips to Eleusis and Aegina, and a four-day trip, stopping at Corinth, Mycenae, Olympia and Delphi. What better way to learn about Greek mythology, then to learn about them at the actual places where they occurred?
Since many of the infamous Greek stories originated in the city of Athens, much of the work will take place here by visiting different sites such as Akropolis, the Agora, the Areopagus, and the National Archaeological Museum. The Akropolis is home to the infamous Parthenon, and the Agora, otherwise known as the market, was the focal point of administrative, commercial, political and social activity back in the old days. The National Archaeological Museum boasts the world's best collection of Greek antiquities.
Athens, Greece is an archaeological dream and an exciting destination. Don't miss this opportunity to get hands-on experience in the world of Greek mythology. For more information, check out our website at www.studyabroad.purdue.edu. Don't forget, deadlines for all summer programs are March 1st!
