Growing up in Florida, surfing has been a huge passion of mine. Except for the few holidays that we have off, I pretty much had to give up surfing when I moved up to Purdue. Australia has some of the best surfing breaks in the world. So, when I saw the opportunity to study abroad in Australia, I jumped at the chance. I picked to go to the University of Queensland in Brisbane. There could not have been a better choice because Brisbane is about an hour away from the world famous Gold Coast. Furthermore, my grandmother is from there Brisbane and so I was able to meet some family members that live there. I had a blast. The people were great and very laid back in nature. I had four day weekends every weekend and I became friends with a few other American surfers who bought a car. So, we took trips to the Gold Coast whenever we had the chance. No one could understand why we had to go all of the time, but why wouldn't we? We were in a spot that we always dreamed of surfing and every time we went the dream got even better. This was an experience I will never forget. It really opened my eyes to what else is out there. I would go back at any given chance.
