If you have not been able to fit a study abroad program into your college years, a US Student Fulbright Grant is a great way to have the experience of living in another country.  It can also get you overseas again if you did study abroad and want to gain more international experience.

The program supports more than 1200 US citizens annually for a year of study, research, teaching experience or professional training in the arts in more than 140 different countries.

It is open to people who have recently completed a BA or BS, or are working on a Master’s or Ph D.  Young professionals and artists are also welcome to apply.  Participants usually design their own programs.

Completed applications for the 2008/9 academic year should be submitted to Purdue’s Fulbright advisor, Brian Harley, Assistant Dean of International Programs and Director of the Office of Programs for Study Abroad, by Sept. 28.   Be aware that the application process is rigorous.  Click here for more information.

In addition to the grants that support self-designed programs, the Fulbright Commission also provides business-related grants, Islamic Civilization Initiative Awards, Language Training Initiative grants and English teaching assistantships.
