FACULTY of ARTS
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at NUS is one of the earliest established faculties in the University, with its origins dating back to the founding of Raffles College, which began classes in 1928. Today, the FASS is the largest Faculty at the National University of Singapore, with more than 5,500 undergraduate students and over 1,000 graduate students. It has more than 400 Faculty members and 150 professional and administrative staff.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is characterised by a rich diversity of research interests and activities. It is organised into three Divisions - Asian Studies, Humanities, and Social Sciences - under which 14 departments and programmes are grouped. In addition, the Faculty hosts two multi-disciplinary, cross-departmental undergraduate programmes, namely, European Studies and American Studies, and a multi-disciplinary, cross-departmental graduate programme in International Studies. Besides the Centre for Language Studies which oversees all language learning, the Faculty also offers a multi-disciplinary graduate programme in Public Policy and Public Management.

Students can take courses from the following areas of study: Chinese Studies, Information and Communications Management, Economics Management, English Language and Literature, South Asian Studies, Geography, Southeast Asian Studies, History, Public Policy, Japanese Studies, Malay Studies, Philosophy, American Studies, Political Science, European Studies, Social Work and Psychology, Singapore Studies, and Sociology.

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING
The NUS Faculty of Engineering is one of the largest faculties in the University with over 5,500 undergraduate students, 2,800 graduate students and 300 faculty members. All engineering programs in the Faculty are designed to enable and empower the graduates through a well-designed curriculum and programs, effective facilitation and teaching process, assessment and having a conducive learning environment so that they not only possess the traditional attributes of problem-solving, analytical, communication, management and decision-making skills but also the modern attributes to enable them to practice their profession with competence and confidence in the ever changing world.

The faculty is known for being an incubator of national laboratories and major Research and Development projects. It has consistently provided for many of the country's engineering manpower needs in industrial development, while continuing to contribute to a growing knowledge based economy. Time and again, the faculty has proven its ability to adapt and stay on top of today's rapidly changing technologies. The Faculty of Engineering is organized into five departments as listed below.

The Department of Chemical & Environmental Engineering offers undergraduate programs in both chemical and environmental engineering. New and emerging areas of interest in these disciplines create a synergy which makes for an exciting academic and research environment.

The Department of Civil Engineering offers a rich, varied and innovation-oriented undergraduate programme designed to prepare students for careers in traditional areas of civil engineering as well as for new and exciting jobs involving planning and design, structural retrofitting, soft ground technology, and coastal and environment management.

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering's academic programmes have been specially engineered to equip students with a strong foundation in the humanities and mathematical, engineering and scientific (including Biology) fundamentals during the first two years.

Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering offers a new Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial and Systems Engineering. With its launching, NUS will be the only university in Singapore offering such a programme.

Department of Mechanical offers programmes covering a wide range of subjects: applied mechanics, biomechanics, control engineering, fluid mechanics, manufacturing, materials science and thermodynamics.

Division of Bioengineering offers courses that complement the programmes of the five departments. Bioengineering students will have a strong engineering background and become conversant at the interface of life sciences and engineering.

FACULTY OF SCIENCE
From modest beginnings in 1929 as a single department in Raffles College, with just 10 students and 3 staff, the Faculty of Science has evolved into one of the largest Faculties in the National University of Singapore, with over 4,487 undergraduates, 1,304 graduate students; more than 490 academic staff and 293 administrative, technical and support staff. Science education at NUS is multidisciplinary and trains students to meet the increasingly complex needs of the future. University degree programs are constantly revised to ensure that the education students receive remains relevant and in demand. Greater emphasis is placed on developing and sharpening the students' analytical and creative thinking skills, presentation skills, computer literacy, and problem-solving techniques. These are life skills that make Faculty of Science graduates versatile, articulate, and IT-savvy.

A diverse range of courses and stringent examinations ensure that Science majors are adaptable and capable under variable and challenging working and living environments. Students enjoy the flexibility of choosing from a wide variety of courses and cross-faculty modules that combine scientific study and resource management. On top of the rigorous training provided by the basic degree programs, the Faculty also offers a host of special programmes, such as the Special Programme in Science, the Student Exchange Program, the Science Academic Mentorship, and Professional Placement Programme, to spur our students to extend their intellectual and personal horizons.

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM
The BSc (Building) course is a professional course with an emphasis on the management and economics of construction projects as well as on the built environment.

The construction industry is vast and involved, having major economic and social significance in every country. The state of the industry reflects the economic and social development of a country as evidenced by the quality of its industrial, commercial and residential buildings. A high percentage of the total employment of human and material resources, and therefore fixed capital formation and growth, is dependent upon the level of construction activity in the community. Finally, the way in which buildings are planned, designed, maintained and demolished has a major influence on the health and well-being of the population. In Singapore, construction has become a complex production process involving many advanced technologies. One consequence of this is the need for high calibre graduates in this discipline to manage the process. The BSc(Building) course aims to produce such graduates. Its graduates provide professional advice to clients to enable them to complete their building projects to meet time, cost and quality targets.

The NUS Building program is structured in terms of modules grouped into four core areas of study: Total Building Performance, Construction and Project Management, Construction Economics and Quantity Surveying.

Housing

Students will live in one of the university's 6 residence halls. Each hall has a different look and philosophy and exchange students are encouraged to check out the NUS Housing website at http://www.nus.edu.sg/osa/housing/ to determine the residence hall which suits them best. Each hall is equipped with laundry facilities and social lounges. Students have the option of buying a meal plan from the university or eating in "canteens" on the street.
