Program Description

Now accepting applications for Summer 2020.

France is renowned for its influence on the world’s gastronomy, art, fashion, literature and philosophy. Too often we associate this influence with major metropolitan areas such as Paris. However, this historic tradition stems from regions all across France like the small countryside villages, and townss. While we will visit some well-known locations, this trip will not be all about visiting museums and sitting at cafes. Rather, we plan to immerse ourselves in all that France has to offer. While in France we will bike across winding roads in the French countryside surrounded by small artisan farms and villages; hike up the various French hills and mountains and live in the quiet French countryside.

Our trip is designed to help you increase your Cultural Intelligence (CQ), which will help you and your resume stand out. For college students, personal and professional success in today’s multicultural society requires individuals to be able to communicate with the world. The ability to bridge cultural divides within and outside an organization is fundamental to success, which is why Cultural Intelligence is so important; however, research shows that people do not become more culturally competent through travel alone. Growth requires setting goals, creating an action plan and receiving guidance from qualified mentors. Our programs are designed to maximize your opportunities to focus on intercultural and personal goals while attending to the present through mindful contemplation.

Academic Credit

6-credit hours in the summer (3 credits in the Spring)

In addition, students MUST enroll for a Spring Course titled Intercultural Development (evening TBD from 6-9pm).

The 3-credit hour course is required in order to do the summer study abroad.

Once students are accepted into the program they receive permission to add the course to their schedules.

Eligibility

We accept applications from all Undergraduate Majors

Students must complete a pre-interview questionnaire (which is available the first week of classes).

Then, students will be asked to meet the instructors. Students are interviewed because we have many more applicants than we have spots on the trip. Our last New Zealand trip had 130 applicants for 21 spots on the trip.

We do not look for a specific type of student (we often accept students from all years in school, majors, and backgrounds). We look for insightful students who are interested in Japan's culture, nature, and willingness to engage in mindful reflection.
