Program Description

Cultural Explorations in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands will explore the importance of sustainability and the culture on tourism. Students will fly into Quito, Ecuador the day after Christmas. The group will spend 4 days in the Quito areas seeing the UNESCO old city and other tourist site. We will also spend 1 day in the market capital of Otavalo. The group will then head to the Galapagos Islands which is one of the most rare and unique places in the world.
During our time in the Galapagos islands students will visit up to 4 different islands and see different animal species on each island which will include the world famous huge Galapagos tortoises. We will depart the Galapagos for Quito and then the flight back to the United States.
The program will include all accommodations, all tours, air transportation from the Ecuador mainland to the Galapagos, airport pickup and return, some meals, credit hours. It does not include roundtrip airfare to Ecuador, however Dr. Howard Adler will be helping the group to make individual reservations based on where you are coming from.

Students who are interested can contact Dr. Howard Adler at for an application and how to apply. Because December comes around very fast and there are many arrangements to be made, we will need to get confirmation of peoples interests and deposits at the earliest possible time.

Academic Credit

Students will earn 3 credit hours. Normally it will transfer in as either a free elective or depending on the students major a cultural course.

the course is open to all Purdue University students.

Program Cost

The cost is approximately $3200 which includes all tours, all domestic airfare within Ecuador, credit hours, some meals.

Application Deadline

Because December comes up quickly. We will be trying to secure deposits as early as May of 2019, however we will still be enrolling students in August, September and even October.  Since we have to book airlines within Ecuador and confirm hotels etc  Students will need to make a decision by October.
