Overview

CIEE-Taipei: Summer Accelerated Chinese

An island at the crossroads of Northeast and Southeast Asia, Taiwan is a unique fusion of cultures. Known for its delicious street food, beautiful scenery, and friendly people, Taiwan offers a variety of experiences that will make your stay unforgettable.

This summer, fast-forward your Mandarin language skills in one of the most culturally rich cities on Earth. Kick learning into high gear with daily coursework and one-on-one classes suited to your level, whether you’re a first- or fifth-year Mandarin student.

Eligibility

The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

GPA Requirement: 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
Language Requirement: none

Students interested in completing courses while abroad from Purdue colleges or departments that are not listed above should discuss this with their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.



Housing

Students stay in twin rooms at a hotel located within walking distance or a quick public transportation ride away from campus. Rooms are equipped with beds, a desk, air conditioner, and other basic hotel amenities.

Students are expected to budget for all their meals during their stay. The area surrounding the hotel and campus is full of restaurants and eateries that offer a wide variety of options for students to choose from. Taiwan has a diverse culinary culture that can cater to all kinds of palettes and preferences. Students with specific food restrictions or diets are welcome to approach our staff or instructors for recommendations.


Estimated Program Costs

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. 

Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location.  This will vary by program.

The Program fee includes: tuition for 10 credits, on-site orientation, and activities and excursions.The approximate additional costs (food, flights, etc.) are TBA.
