Overview
Returning Spring 2024!
Students applying for semester programs in Spain must have a valid, useable passport at the time of application. Passport must be valid for 12 months after the program end date.
The Alicante Liberal Arts program is designed for students who have completed four or five semesters of Spanish, who are interested in developing their language skills further and who want to live in and experience the culture of Spain first hand. The goals are to develop the spoken and written Spanish language skills of participants through intensive language course work, conversation groups and extensive excursions throughout Valencia and other regions of Spain.
A mid-sized city on the Mediterranean coast, Alicante is a thriving cosmopolitan city with multinational corporate headquarters and a developing service industry. Dominating the skyline is the castle of Santa Barbara, an ever-present reminder of the city's ancient Moorish roots. Below are the narrow, winding streets of the historic Santa Cruz district.
The CIEE study center is located at the Universidad de Alicante, one of Spain's newest universities. Established to serve the higher education needs of the province of Alicante, the university offers its 30,000 students the benefits of a modern campus: the most up-to-date research libraries and laboratories, venues for artistic and cultural events and extensive sports facilities.

Application Deadlines
For full consideration, students must submit all supporting documents (typically an essay, transcripts, 1-2 recommendations, and copy of passport) before or by the application deadline. Popular programs fill quickly, often before the deadline. To insure a place in a program, apply early.
As soon as a student submits an online application, a My Study Abroad account is created. Applicants should consult this page often to check on the status of the application.
After paying the study abroad deposit, applicants will need to complete a program application which will be forwarded to the head office of CIEE. Students will be notified directly by CIEE about their acceptance into the program.
