University College Dublin Internship Program

Today's global economy demands graduates with global perspective. The University College Dublin Summer Internship Program provides students with a challenging international business experience in a uniquely stimulating location: the modern European city of Dublin.

This is a six credit program, three credits for a business-related internship and three credits for the academic course.

University College Dublin Internship Program

The program is open to full-time undergraduate students with business-related majors, who have reached at least junior standing (completed four semesters of college) by the start of the program. Students who are juniors, but have switched majors, need to have taken some classes from the new major in order to qualify for participation.

Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

GPA Requirement: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Students interested in completing courses while abroad from Purdue colleges or departments that are not listed above should discuss this with their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.

Academic Program

All students will take two courses:

  • Ireland's International Business Environment (required)
  • Responsible Management and Society
  • Global Finance
  • Digital Marketing Communications

As a complement to the internship credit, students are required to complete the following:

  1. Weekly reflective journal
  2. Research Paper
  3. Presentation of Research paper


Social and cultural activities to learn more about Ireland and the Irish are offered throughout the summer and might include:

  • Wicklow Mountain Walk
  • Hurling match
  • Trip to the West of Ireland
  • Castle Tour
  • Irish Dancing
  • Traditional Irish Music

Students live on campus at UCD during their program. UCD hosts hundreds of students during the summer ensuring that there is always something happening on campus. Students have access to all of the facilities that UCD has to offer, its student center, gym, cinema, and shops. 

Campus is within twenty minutes to the city and greater Dublin area. UCD housing will be shared with fellow students in apartments comprising four individual bedrooms with two shared bathrooms. Communal kitchens and living spaces are shared in each apartment with access to kitchen utensils and cooking facilities. Bed linen is supplied and changed weekly and wifi is available campus wide.

Estimated Program Costs

Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location.  This will vary by program.

UCD will invoice students for the program fee of € 4,250, which includes tuition fees for two courses/six credits, internship placement, and an extensive cultural program with excursions. Housing is not included in the program fee and will be an approx. € 1,500 more.
