The University: Hong Kong Polytechnic University has a proud and illustrious history. Formerly known as Hong Kong Polytechnic, the institution assumed full university status in 1994. PolyU is strategically located in Hung Hom, Kowloon, on a site of approximately 93,500 square metres and adjacent to the Cross Harbour Tunnel, and has an enrollment of approximately 22,000 students. Location: Hong Kong is on the southeast coast of China, at the mouth of the Pearl River. English is widely spoken among the citizens since it was a British colony until 1997, but it has always been Chinese at its heart. The best part about spending a semester in Hong Kong is that students can live quite reasonably in one of the world's most exciting, vibrant, colorful cities! This program is open to students who will have reached junior status (completed four semesters of course work at a college or university). A minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale is required. Students may participate in this program for a semester or an academic year. The first semester is from early September to late December, while the second semester starts in mid- to late January and ends in early June. The University prides itself on offering a wide range of courses to meet the demands of the various professions. These top-quality programs are enhanced by the University's close ties with key players in Hong Kong's industries. Consequently, Hong Kong PolyU continues to design and deliver application-oriented education and training programs, conduct applied research, and provide consultancy services to support the development of business and industry. Students will be housed in Student Halls of Residence, centrally located and adjacent to the commercial and shopping areas of Hung Hom and Tsimshatsui. It is accessible by a comprehensive transportation network which includes the railway (KCR) and the cross harbour tunnel buses. ATTENTION: All Purdue Industrial Engineering students accepted to this program will receive a HK$10,000 (approximately US$1200) scholarship from the HKPU Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. For full consideration, students must submit all supporting documents by the dates below. Popular programs fill quickly, often before the deadline. To insure a place in a program, apply as early. As soon as a student submits an on-line application, a My Study Abroad account is created. Consult the My Study Abroad page for the specific list of requirements for the chosen program since those can differ slightly from program to program. Applicants may also check on the status of their applications. After a student is approved for a program, s/he will receive additional information regarding any necessary supplemental paperwork, including any program-specific applications, and confirmation deposits.
