Tec de Monterrey-Mexico City

Of all the countries in Latin America, Mexico welcomes the most number of international exchange students in study abroad programs every year. The Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, commonly known as Tec, was founded in 1943 by a group of entrepreneurs headed by Don Eugenio Garza Sada. Seeking to educate professionals and equip them with the skills needed to succeed in the business world, Tec de Monterrey has developed into an institution recognized, nationally and internationally, for its academic excellence.

A private non-profit nationwide university system, Tec de Monterrey is comprised of 29 campuses spread throughout 26 Mexican cities. The international study abroad program is only available on eight campuses, including Mexico City.

Founded over 675 years ago as the ancient city of Tenochtitlán and capital of the Aztec Empire, today it is has some 22 million inhabitants. One need only to stand in the center of the Plaza of Three Cultures to visually comprehend the undisputed significance of this city. Here, the remains of an Aztec pyramid, a colonial church, and a towering modern office building face one another, a testament to the city's prominence in ancient and contemporary history. Located at the heart of the Americas, Mexico City has been a center of life and commerce for over 2,000 years. Teotihuacans, Toltecs, Aztecs, and European conquistadors all contributed to the city's fascinating evolution, art, and heritage. Although residents refer to their city as simply México (Meh-hee-koh), its multitude of ancient ruins, colonial masterpieces, and modern architecture has prompted others to call it 'The City of Palaces.'

The ten-acre (almost 25 hectares) Mexico City Campus includes seven modern buildings and three cafeterias, a student center complete with one of the largest gyms in Latin America, a sports facility that hosts 16 athletic teams, a beautiful library, a computer center, and modern engineering and media labs. International students become part of the global experience - interacting with professors from countries such as Argentina, Austria, Brazil, England, France, Cuba, Russia, the United States and more.

The program is open to Purdue students who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity and a desire to experience another culture.

Students with the equivalent of 4 semesters of Spanish will most likely be able to choose from all the regular University courses offered at Tec that are taught in Spanish. Students with less language proficiency will be limited to intensive Spanish language classes and courses offered in English.

NOTE: Students applying to this program must realize that it is more challenging to study in Mexico City relative to other cities in Mexico. Unless an applicant has compelling reasons for studying in Tec's Mexico City campus, it is recommended that he or she apply to the  Queretaro campus instead.
