Overview
Accademia Italiana Florence

All undergraduates on the West Lafayette campus approved for this program are eligible for up to $2000 in funding.

Academics:  If art, design and/or fashion are your interests, the Accademia Italiana Florence program in the summer will provide you with an incomparable experience. It ranks as one of Europe's premier institutes for the study of studio art, fashion design, graphic design, interior and industrial design, and textile design. Additionally, the institution offers a variety of enrichment courses in Italian language, history, and culture.

Location: A city of scholars, artists, and gourmets, Florence is an excellent place to appreciate Italy's language and culture.

Eligibility

Accademia Italiana Florence

The program is open to Purdue students who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity and a desire to experience another culture.

GPA Requirement: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Language Requirement: none

If students complete courses while abroad from Purdue colleges that have not approved the program, they might be able to earn transfer credit for those courses. Students interested in pursuing transfer credit should discuss this with both their academic advisor and their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.

Academic Program

Purdue students can choose between two program options:

Fashion Design:  This course aims to introduce the student to the practical aspects of the fashion design profession. The course focuses on teaching students what is needed to design a stylistically-consistent collection and developing individual creativity in the production of articles of clothing, and finally, designing various clothing collections.  6 credit hours

Design in Italy: This intensive course is dedicated to the design of one unit of furniture, furnishing accessory, or fixture. Each student chooses from one or more themes, and may carry out one additional project. The final project package must include materials, color schemes, etc., an analysis of the object's aesthetic role and function in a domestic context, and the executive design.  6 credit hours

Housing

Students will typically live in apartments or flats with other American or international students and have access to shared kitchen facilities. In most cases, you will prepare your own meals and should be prepared for a commute to campus.

Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location.  This will vary by program.

Please note: The program fee listed in the chart below includes tuition, field-study trips, health and accident insurance, an International Student Identification Card, and student support services.  The housing portion of the program fee assumes self-catered, shared accommodations.
