Stenden University

University: Stenden University, located in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, is one of the most well-known centers in the Netherlands for studying small business, retail and tourism management. Stenden is structured on group learning rather than individual learning. Each semester students select three 6-week subject modules. These modules are taught using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) methods. Each group consists of approximately 10 students, including a chairperson and a note taker, who all support each other in solving the problems presented in each module.

Location: Leeuwarden is a beautiful Dutch city located in the northern province of the Netherlands in the region of Friesland and has approximately 90,000 inhabitants, 15,000 of whom are students from all over the world. Students like the area because of its excellent housing, entertainment, sports facilities and cultural activities.

Stenden University

The program is open to Purdue students who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity and a desire to experience another culture.

If students complete courses while abroad from Purdue colleges that have not approved the program, they might be able to earn transfer credit for those courses. Students interested in pursuing transfer credit should discuss this with both their academic advisor and their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.


The International Office at Stenden University will assist students in finding short-term housing in Leeuwarden.
