| Overview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Monash offers Study Australia students two campus options in Melbourne, both linked by a free shuttle bus service. Clayton is the University's largest campus, with approximately 20,000 students, and offers a tranquil setting, yet easy access to downtown Melbourne just 12 miles away. Caulfield is a more urban campus and minutes from downtown Melbourne by train. Students can take courses at either campus. Monash University, established in 1961, is now Australia's largest university. Monash is one of the Group of Eight, Australia's leading universities that are recognized for their excellence in research, scholarship and teaching. With selective entry and a strong tradition of excellence in traditional and emerging academic disciplines, Monash is an entrepreneurial, world-class institution. Its research experience is outstanding, and the University places a premium on quality undergraduate teaching. Generally, Study Australia participants reside in on-campus residence halls at Clayton campus. Caulfield campus offers students hostel-type accommodation, or Study Australia provides furnished, off-campus apartments and houses. Monash arranges for all study-abroad students attending orientation to have a local student as a mentor. Your mentor will usually take you on a tour of Melbourne, attend the welcome dinner with you and answer questions about life as a Melburian. This is a great opportunity for Study Australia participants to meet local students and begin to fully immerse themselves in the culture. The Study Australia resident directors and Monash study-abroad office arrange several social and cultural activities during the semester. Sample events could include a road trip to the Great Ocean Road or skiing at the Snowy Mountains. For more program information, please visit the program website.
