| Program Description |
The 2013 Cuisine and Culture class heads to a new destination, Portugal, where we will tour castles, visit open-air markets, learn about cheesemaking, and explore the art of wine making as we make our way through the beautiful countryside. The program begins with classes on the West Lafayette campus covering topics such as history, language, architecture, food and safe traveling. Over Spring Break, the class ventures abroad on an experiential tour of the region in question. Upon returning, students finish the course with reflective presentations and an exam. Preliminary site visits include: - Round trip airfare from Chicago to Lisbon
- Shuttle bus to and from West Lafayette and Chicago
- All ground transportation while in Europe
- 4 night accomodations in Evora
- 3 night accomodations in Lisbon
- All breakfasts plus various lunches and dinners during class sessions
- Guided city tours of Lisbon, Evora & Sintra
- Olive oil production tour
- Winery tour and wine tastings
- Behind the scenes tour of the historic Hotel Convento de Sao Paulo dating to 1182
- Visit to Sesimbra and its daily fish auction
- Port tasting class
- Cheesemaking in Azeitao
- Palacio Paco Ducal Museum tour in Vila Vicosa
- Roman ruins in Evora
