Overview
Curtin University, ranked in the top 2% of universities worldwide, can trace its roots back to the turn of the century when the first professional courses in business and engineering were held at what was then the Perth Technical College. Today, Curtin is a large, comprehensive research university offering Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees in humanities, business, sciences, engineering, agriculture and mining and is ranked among the top universities in Australia. The range of courses is extensive, the facilities state-of-the-art, and the teaching staff highly qualified and personable. Curtin has more than 51,000 students, one third of which are international.
Curtin's location provides many opportunities to see the unique features of Western Australia and undertake interesting and often unique activities -- hiking or horseback riding in the towering karri and marri forests, diving at Ningaloo Reef and Rottnest Island, surfing at Margaret River, or joining Curtin Volunteers! in one of their programs with a remote Aboriginal community on the edge of the desert 500 km north east of Perth.
Perth is Australia's fastest growing city (also the sunniest). It's close to Singapore, even sharing the same time zone, and is Australia's western gateway to Asia. With 12,500 km of coastline, Western Australia is internationally famed for its magnificent beaches and, of course, its surfing. The diversity, consistency and quality of the waves are world class.
