Founded in 1831, the University of Hannover is located just north of the city center and has an enrollment of about 23,000 students. The University of Hannover's 17 Faculties cover a wide range of fields in architecture, education, engineering, horticulture, humanities, law, management, science, and social sciences.  This program is operated as a partnership between faculty members in the department of horticulture at Purdue and the University of Hannover.

Hannover is the captial of Niedersachsen, a state in north-central Germany.  The city has a population of just over 600,000 and consists of a combination of 11th-century half-timbered structures, 19th-century palaces and striking modern architecture.  Known as a trade fair city, Hannover hosts the world's largest technology fair (CeBIT) and is the home of global corporations such at Continental AG, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and the TUI Group.
