Tsinghua University: Two- Way Summer Research Internship

The Purdue College of Engineering Office of Professional Practice is offers a team research program that takes place at both Tsinghua University and the Purdue campus during the summer:

2016 Schedule             

May 23- July 3          Research in China

July 4- July 10          Travel in China

July 11- August 12    Research at Purdue Labs

University: Tsinghua University is one of the highest ranked universities in China and the best in the field of engineering.  Located in the northwestern suburbs of Beijing, the university was built on the site of a royal garden of the Qing Dynasty.  The university was established in 1911 and since then has developed into a comprehensive university of higher learning with faculties of science, engineering, economics, management, humanities, law and the arts.

Eligibility

Tsinghua University: Two- Way Summer Research Internship
Purdue students in the Forbidden City.

This program is open to the relevant College of Engineering and College of Science majors who are juniors at the time of application.

Direct credits for participants in Computer Science is subject to the approval of the department.

This is a selective and competitive program. Initial screening of the candidates will be conducted by the Office of Professional Practice. Students should submit a resume, cover letter, and electronic transcript to the Assistant Director for Global Professional Practice, Joe Tort (jtort@purdue.edu ).  Students approved by the Office of Professional Practice will be prompted to complete the study abroad application.

GPA Requirement: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

If students complete courses while abroad from Purdue colleges that have not approved the program, they might be able to earn transfer credit for those courses. Students interested in pursuing transfer credit should discuss this with both their academic advisor and their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.

Academic Program

Summer Course Load: 6 Purdue credits

Six credits will be counted toward technical electives.

The Tsinghua Two-Way Summer Research Program involves 6 weeks of research in Beijing, one week of travel in China and 5 weeks back at Purdue.  Each Purdue student will be paired with a student from the host university.  The pair will work directly with faculty PIs from Purdue and Tsinghua University.


Excursions

No excursions are included, however, students have a week for travel in China before coming back to complete their research assignments.

Housing
Purdue students are paired with Tsinghua students. Tsinghua student help Purdue students arrange for student housing in apartments near campus. The average cost is approximately $13 per night.
