Program Description

June 4-June 22, 2019; 3–Credit Hour Elective which compares Irish and European health care delivery, funding models, and outcome indices with those of the United States. Students will compare and contrast their own cultural norms to Irish cultural norms through travel to historic and cultural sites in Dublin and other locations in Ireland. This course is an appropriate elective for Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Pre-Med, Pre-PA and Health Science majors interested in health care.

Students study and stay on the campus of University College Dublin, a large, modern university located a short bus ride south of Dublin City Center.  In addition to course work, opportunities will be provided to explore a variety of cultural and historic venues in Dublin including Trinity College, Kilmainham Jail, St Partick's Cathedral, Dublin Castle and the Guinness Factory.  On the weekend, students will travel as a group to cultural and historic sites in Dublin and other locations in Ireland

Participants will earn three credits as SA 10215.

Eligibility

HHS students with a GPA of at least 3.0

Program Cost

Fixed fees payable to Purdue University:

  • Study Abroad Fee = 304.70
  • Program Fee = 3321.67
  • Travel Insurance = 32.00

Additional Costs:

  • Travel to and from US departure airport (arranged by the Student) = $80
  • Air Transportation to and from Dublin (arranged by the Student) = $1000
  • Passport = $150
  • Additional Spending Money = $500 to $1000

$500-$1500.00 scholarship assistance may be available to help defray cost

Potential total cost after scholarship assistance = $4000 to $5000

By January 21, 2019 students are required to submit to Prof Jan Davis, Johnson Hall of Nursing, Room 117
