RE: Exclusions in international insurance
As a university community, it is one of our highest priorities that students are safe. As such, international insurance is required when students participate on any Purdue activity overseas. But please note that your international insurance policy has certain exclusions.
As such, students need to realize that they will not have coverage for claims made associated with participation in excluded activities. For these activities, students will be doing this at their own risk.
Per the insurance policy, insurance coverage does not include “Injury sustained while taking part in mountaineering where ropes or guides are normally used; hand gliding, parachuting, bungee jumping, racing by horse, motor vehicle or motorcycle, or parasailing ".
Also, note that coverage is not in effect if students are under the influence of alcohol or non-prescription drugs. More specifically, there is no coverage related to “Injury sustained while under the influence of or disablement due to wholly or partly to the effects of intoxicating liquor or drugs other than drugs taken in accordance with treatment prescribed and directed by a physician for a condition which is covered hereunder.”
This memo only highlights two exclusions. Please read the entire policy when it is provided to you after you apply for a study abroad program. Thank you for your attention.
