The objective of this course is to provide an entry level understanding of common project management methodologies with an emphasis on the traditional waterfall methodology. Applications will focus on technology and engineering contexts. By the end of the course, students should be familiar with the principles and tools necessary to plan and execute a project and lead a project team.
The course utilizes lecture modality, practical exercises, discussion of actual cases, and industry visits. Students will learn the concepts and techniques to manage international projects and project teams. The course will cover fundamental project management topics including
- Role and responsibilities of a Project Manager
- Tools available to manage projects
- Project planning, set-up and execution
- Leading international project teams
- Navigating the network of stakeholders
- Common factors contributing to project success or failure

At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- Understand the differences in the methodologies covered and when to apply each
- Understand the importance of project management to an organization and how it fits within the organizational structure
- Use the basic tools for each methodology covered to manage a project at the entry level
- Function effectively within a team environment and lead a project team
- Understand basic factors for success in international projects and teams.
