Program Description
Open to ALL Engineering Students!
Join Prof. John Morgan in fascinating Taiwan! The goal of this study abroad is to expose students to the academic and industrial environment in Taiwan. In the context of a global economy it is critical for students to have knowledge of foreign cultures. Taiwan plays an important economic role in the world and offers excellent examples of industrial and engineering development. This course will help students understand how the highest level of education, research, and industrial development shape the economic status and social welfare of a nation.
Students will visit National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and National Taiwan University, company visits, the city of Taipei, Taipei 101, Shi Ling night market, National Palace Museum, the City of Tainan, and much more.
Proposed itinerary: (subject to change due to availability)
May 11 -Depart the USA for Taipei
May 12 -Arrive Taipei Airport and train to Tainan City-National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Welcome dinner
May 13-15-Class at NCKU, time to explore Tainan, company visits, Calligraphy lesson, walking tour and Temple of Matsu.
May 16-17- Weekend with visit to the Central Valley, free time, then transfer to Taipei.
May 18-22 - Activites arranged at National Taiwan University in Taipei (NTU), night market visit, lab tours, Company visits, National Palace Museum, Jiufen walking tour, Lantern making class.
May 23-Possible free day in Taipei, Farewell dinner
May 24-Students free to leave any time
Academic Credit
Students will receive 3 credits for ChE 49500. All students must check with their academic advisor to see how this course can be used in their plan of study.
Eligibility
Open to engineering students who are in good standing with the university and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Eligible students who have reached at least the sophomore level & up.
Program Cost
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
Program cost is $4500: Price will include: all housing, ground transportation in-country, breakfast daily, at least 2 dinners, all excursions listed on the itinerary, 3 credits, and International Health Insurance.
Additional expenses would be: Airfare, passport, Visa (if needed), meals, and personal spending money.
Non US Citizens will need to obtain a tourist visa for travel if necessary.
Application Deadline
Program will accept applications on a rolling basis until the program is full. 20 spots available.
