Program Description
The course objective for the Energy and Motorsports in Northern Italy course is to expose students to the intersecting point of energy technologies and the motorsports industry in one of the most iconic regions in the world for automotive innovation. It would explore aspects of the education of Italian engineers and industry leaders in general, specifics on problem-solving and communication methods used in this country's energy and automobile sector, and the research important to the universities of Italy and its overall economy. Designing and manufacturing processes of technologies for energy-saving and high-performance vehicles with a focus on motorsports and other industries will be discussed.
**Resume and Essay must be uploaded as part of the application process. In your 500 (max) word essay, describe why you want to particpate in this program and how it will help with your future study or work plans. Upload these documents on your My Study Abroad page by November 9.
**Minimum GPA is 3.0. Acceptance decisions will be made in January 2026 after fall 2025 grades are posted. Deposit will be due after acceptance.
Students will visit Milan, Padua, Venice, Bologna, and Rome. The itinerary is under development but plans are to visit several universities in Italy, Ferrari, Dallara, Brembo, Dairy and Cheese production site, Lake Garda, and much more. Check back for updates!
Academic Credit
Earn 3 credits for ME 49700. All students must check with their academic advisor to see how this course can be used in their plan of study.
Eligibility
This program is open to all engineering students, but preference will be givent to FYE students, especially those interested in GEARE.

Program Cost
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
Estimated cost is $5,450 which includes: All hotels, breakfast daily, all academic activities, all cultural excursions on the itinerary, Welcome and Farewell meals, 3 academic credits, and international health insurance.
Additional costs: Airfare, meals, passport and visa (if necessary), personal spending money.
