Program Description
Australia & New Zealand | Short-Term Study Abroad
Join Professor Denny Yu to Australia and New Zealand to experience innovative hospitals, research labs, healthcare facilities, and industry environments. Compare healthcare systems and discover how human-centered design, technology, patient safety, and cultural perspectives shape healthcare around the world.

- Visit hospitals, simulation labs & healthcare facilities
- Engage with university research and engineering experts
- Explore medical technology & digital health innovation
- Participate in guest lectures and collaborative workshops
- Examine Maori health perspectives and health equity

- Apply human factors, ergonomics & systems engineering to real-world challenges
Learning Outcomes
Students will:
- Analyze human factors challenges in global healthcare
- Compare healthcare systems in Australia, New Zealand & the U.S.
- Apply human-centered design and ergonomic principles
- Explore global perspectives in engineering practice
Academic Credit
Students will earn 3 credits for IE 49000.
All students must check with their academic advisor as to how this course can be used in their plan of study.
Eligibility
Open to Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate Students in Engineering majors.
Recommended that students have taken at least one course in either human factors, industrial engineering, or systems engineering. If you are unsure if you qualify, please contact the program leader.
Program Cost
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
Estimated cost is between $5,700 and $5,900 which includes: Academic credits, all housing, ground transportation in country, all activities on the itinerary, breakfast daily, Welcome and Farewell dinner, and International Health Insurance.
Additional costs: Round-trip airfare, visa (if needed), most lunches and dinners, Passport, personal activities, and personal spending money.

Application Deadline
Students will be accepted on a rolling basis until the program is full. 20 spots available.
