Program Description

Lived Experiences in Greece is a 17 day program designed to immerse students in Greek culture and the country's rich history and tourism industry.  The journey begins with three days in Athens, exploring historic landmarks, followed by visits to Olympia and Nafplion.  Students will then travel to Santorini, one of the most iconic islands of the Aegean before concluding the program on the island of Crete with visits to Heraklion and Chania.  By the end of the program students will have gained an understanding of Greek life, cultural traditions, and the dynamics of tourism in Greece.

Academic Credit

Students will earn 3 credits total:  HHS 40001, 1 credit in Spring '26 + HHS 40002, 2 credits in Summer '26.  Pre-departure class sessions will be held during the 2nd 8 weeks of the Spring '26 term to prepare you for travel. During the program, journal writing and reflection assignments will be collected. 

Eligibility

This program is open to all students in the College of Health and Human Sciences.

Program Cost

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.

The estimated cost will be $6,900 which includes 3 Purdue academic credit hours, all hotel stays, tours, site visits, ferries, one domestic flight, most breakfasts, and some group lunch and dinners.  Students will arrange their own flight to Athens, arriving by noon on May 11, 2026.  

Application Deadline

The program will start accepting applications at the begining of the fall semester. Acceptance is on a first come first serve basis.  Two deposits of $500 each, applied to the total cost, are required.
