Program Description

Immerse yourself in German culture and cuisine while learning about sustainable energy!  Your home-base for this two-week excursion is Wolfenbuttel, a beautiful medieval village located in north central Germany.  The program combines classroom lectures, discussions of German history, industrial tours, and sightseeing excursions.   From a technical perspective, you will gain insights about the potential for renewable energy technologies to reduce carbon emmissions using a hands-on format.  Classroom lectures are followed by industrial visits to see these technologies up close.  You willl also gain an appreciation for European culture with visits to larger cities like Berlin and Bremen.  This outstanding trip is extremely cost effective, on the order of $3,300 for two weeks in Germany and 3 Purdue credits!

Our hosts are faculty and students at the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, an applied engineering school similar to the Purdue Polytechnic.  The 2026 trip will take place from Sunday, May 10, 2026 through Saturday, May 23, 2026.   An overview and  detailed itinerary for the previous 2025 trip is available from the International Summer University website of Ostfalia University.   The planned technical/cultural field trips include:
