Program Description
The Purdue Young Institute for Advanced Manufacturing of Pharmaceuticals is engaging with the Irish National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Technology (NIBRT) to develop a joint program for workforce development and R&D for the life sciences manufacturing industry. Ireland is well known for manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, and these two institutions have strong reputation and connections with industry, making them a natural fit for this program.
Enjoy a mix of cultural activities, academic and company visits, and the beauty of Ireland.
**Students participating MUST be able to leave campus by 4:00pm on March 12, 2027. Contact Jill Churchill at churchil@purdue.edu We cannot excuse you from any academic commitment so please check this before committing to the program with a deposit. There is no obligation just to apply.
Proposed Itinerary: Subject to change due to availability
March 12- Depart on group flight from Indianapolis to Dublin 8:00PM (Please see note about leaving on Friday, March 12)
March 13- Arrive Dublin at 9:00AM, Shuttle to hotel, group lunch at hotel, walking tour of city, Trinity College and Book of Kells, Kilmainham Goal, Free evening
March 14-Glasnevin Cemetery, National Museum, Bog Bodies Exhibit, Guinness Storehouse tour, Celtic Nights dinner & Irish dance show
March 15-All day workshop at NIBRT (National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training) Lunch provided, free evening
March 16-Morning company visit (TBD), afternoon Merck visit, free evening in Dublin
March 17-National Holiday-Free day, Afternoon travel to Cork, check into Cork hotel
March 18-Visit to Lilly Kinsale, Charles Fort visit, Free evening in Cork
March 19-AbbVie visit, Blarney Castle, Hysterical Histories farewell dinner and show
March 20-Ring of Kerry day trip
March 21-Group flight returning to Chicago-Shuttle back to the PMU
Academic Credit
Students will earn credit for (3) one credit courses that can be used toward the Pharma Certificate:
ChE 49700-Principles of Injectable Drug Manufacturing
ChE-9700-Practical Applications of Injectable Drugs
ENGR 39697-Pharma Manufacturing in Ireland
Students must contact their academic advisor as to how this can be used their Plan of Study.
Eligibility
Open to all Engineering students. Preference will be given to upperclassmen but all students are encouraged to apply. Program is also open to College of Science, Pharmacy, and Lilly Scholars. Students in related majors may also be eligible.

Program Cost
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
Estimated cost is $5,700-$6,000 which includes: Non-stop flight from Indianapolis to Dublin, airport shuttles, all hotels, all ground transportation in Ireland, breakfast daily, all activities and excursions listed on the itinerary, Welcome and Farewell meals, 2-3 lunches during company visits, 3 academic credits, and international health insurance.
Additional costs: Meals not provided, passport, Visa (if necessary, no for US citizens), and personal spending money and activities.
Application Deadline
Students will be accepted on a rolling basis until the program reaches capacity. Maximum 20 spots are available
