Program Description
Join Professors Aaron Lottes and Yunjie Tong for this adventure in beautiful Japan! You will tour medical device companies, universities, and research facilities, meet with government agencies, and hear lectures from faculty at our partner universities across Japan. We will investigate medical device development, design, testing, and evaluation and consider how culture impacts these processes. Enjoy many cultural activities along the way!
Preliminary Itinerary and more information for the 2027 program are coming soon! We will be visiting sites in Sendai, Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka.

Academic Credit
Earn three credits of BME 49500 or BME 59500.
Please check with your academic advisor to determine how this can be used in your plan of study.
Eligibility
Program is open to both undergradate and graduate students. All engineering students and students in other majors who have an interest in medical devices and are in good academic standing will be considered. No students on academic probation will be considered.
**Graduate students please note: Scholarships and Financial Aid are not available for graduate students
Program Cost
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
Estimated cost is $5,900 - $6,200. Giant Leaps Summer Short-Term Scholarships available HERE.
Program fees include: Three academic credits, all housing, ground transportation in country, breakfast daily, a few lunches and dinners, all activities and cultural events on the itinerary, and international health insurance.
Additional costs: Airfare, most lunches and dinners, passport, Visa (if necessary), and personal spending money and activities.
Application Deadline
Students will be accepted on a rolling basis. 20 spots available.
