Program Description

This 3-credit course will primarily be lecture-based at INSA Rouen and the University of Rouen, France. This short-term study abroad course includes art excursions, technical lectures, and an additive manufacturing art project.

-Introduction to Additive Manufacturing;
-Design for Additive Manufacturing;
-Rapid Prototyping to On-demand Manufacturing;
-Additive Manufacturing Processes (7+1 Families): Vat Polymerization; Powder Bed Fusion Processes; Extrusion-based Systems; Material Jetting; Binder Jetting; Sheet Lamination Processes; Directed Energy Deposition; Hybrid Additive Manufacturing;
-Direct vs. Indirect AM;
-AM Powder - Quality, Production, Safety;
-AM Metallurgy;
-Selection of AM Technology;
-Additive Manufacturing File Formats; Post-processing for AM;
-AM Project Planning, Management, Economics, and Scheduling;
-Sensing Quality Control and Process Monitoring;
-AM Applications: Art, Automotive, Aerospace, Food, Space.

May 11- Arrive in Paris, make your way to the hotel, orientation

May 17-23-Rouen, Giverny, Honfleur, Vereusses 

May 24-26-Tours, St. Malo, Mont St. Michelle 

May 27-Rouen 

May 28-Return to US from Paris

Academic Credit

Earn 3 credits for ME 49700. Please check with your academic advisor to see how to use this in your plan of study!

Eligibility

Open to all engineering students and related majors. Technical majors given preference. All undergraduate and graduate levels are encouraged to apply!

Program Cost

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.

Estimated Cost: $5,500 which includes all hotels, daily breakfast, Welcome and Farewell dinners, local ground transportation, 3 academic credits, all excursions and cultural activities on the itinerary, and international health insurance.

Additional Expenses: Round-trip airfare, passport, visa (if needed), some meals, personal excursions and spending money

Application Deadline

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the program is full. There are up to 22 spots available!
