Program Description
Join us for a summer fieldschool that takes you across Peru to ethnographically explore the complexities of tourism and its role in shaping communities, economies, and cultural heritage. Over three weeks, we will meet with local entrepreneurs, artisans, and small-scale operators committed to sustainable and regenerative tourism practices. We will actively engage in tourism experiences, immersing ourselves in creative and innovative practices, while observing tourism’s many challenges.
In Lima, we will stroll the historic center, sample world-famous cuisine, and visit creative projects off the main tourist trail. In the Colca Valley, we will immerse ourselves in tourism through homestays, hikes along pre-Incan trails, and a visit to the famed Cruz del Condor. In Cusco and the Sacred Valley, we will explore Peru’s most iconic sites, including Machu Picchu, and meet farmers who are blending agriculture and tourism to preserve and celebrate Peru’s heritage.
This program is an excellent opportunity for students interested in sustainable and regenerative tourism, tourism management, sustainable development, and ethnographic & qualitative research methods.
