Overview
Tohoku University STEM Research Internship Program (T-SRIP) offers an opportunity for undergraduate students to participate in advanced scientific research projects at Tohoku University’s world leading laboratories!
T-SRIP is designed specifically for full-time 3rd-4th year undergraduate students in STEM fields.
Eligibility
The program is open to Purdue students in the College of Engineering and the College of Science who have completed at least four semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

Students interested in completing courses while abroad from Purdue colleges or departments that are not listed above should discuss this with their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.
Academic Program
Students participate in a combination of research activities and Japanese language and culture classes. Students are required to give a final presentation on research topic and prepare and submit a research report in addition to the language course.
Research topics include:
Faculty of Science
·Data analyses and modeling studies for planetary environments
·Quantum cosmology experiment in semiconductor
·Geochemistry of organic matter associated with 15 Ma submarine hydrothermal activities
·Interface study of the secondary battery, and etc.
School of Engineering
·Experimental works on functional concrete material
·Crystal and Thin Film Engineering with Ionic Liquid in Vacuum
·Development of fabrication process for functional materials, etc.
Excursions
Tentative field trips include:
One-day field trip to Hirashimizu pottery, Yamadera Temple and Basho Memorial Hall in Yamagata.
One-day field trip to the area of Ishinomaki affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake
Housing
The host university coordinates local hotel accommodation. Breakfast is included in the housing cost.
