Overview
Spend six weeks in Stockholm and use your summer to join a lab, become a research assistant, or take a practicum course to gain practical, transferable skills and experience!

DIS-Stockholm's program is located in Stockholm's beautiful Östermalm neighborhood, steps from several Swedish universities, the national Olympic stadium, a metro (T-bana) station, and the Royal National City Park.
Stockholm is the hub for politics, industry, fashion, and research in Sweden. With 14 islands making up the city, each day brings a new adventure. Explore the bustling metropolis of central Stockholm. Meet friends for an afternoon fika at a quaint café in Gamla Stan. Pack a picnic, and join other locals basking in the sun at your favorite overlook on the water.
Summer is a special time in Scandinavia, where locals flock outside to enjoy the seemingly endless daylight and the numerous festivals and events. You can make yourself at home, explore Stockholm's archipelago, and join in midsummer traditions.

Eligibility
The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.
Some options will have strict pre-requisities, please check the DIS website to see if you meet these for your preferred options.
This program cannot accept students who plan to participate after graduation.

Students interested in completing courses while abroad from Purdue colleges or departments that are not listed above should discuss this with their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.
Academic Program
Some classes or options may fill up before application deadline, if you are interested in specific courses, lab, or research options please complete your application early. Some opportunities will require an additional application through DIS to be selected.
Lab, Research, and Practicum sessions in Stockholm are somewhat limited, students should review the DIS Course Offering website and filter by Stockholm to see available courses. Summer offerings for lab, research, and practicum are typically related to health sciences, though other options may be offered depending on the year.
If there is not a course of interest in Stockholm, more options exist in Copenhagen.
After applying, you will be asked which program dates you intend to apply for, either the 6-week Lab, Research, and Practicum program alone, or choose to add on an optional 3-week Session III course to make a 9 week program. Please have this in mind when beginning the application.

DIS offers an extensive list of course offerings, and students should review the planned course offerings before applying by visiting the DIS website and exploring the Course Finder. Some courses are only offered in specific sessions, while others may be offered in multiple sessions. There are space limitations in each class, so we encourage students to apply early for the best course availability.

Regardless of whether a study tour is included in your preferred course options, DIS offers a vibrant student life experience with social activities and events to enhance your experience.
Housing
DIS arranges housing for all participants.
DIS housing is spread across various neighborhoods and suburbs, giving you an authentic local experience as you make the city your home. Most students will share a room with fellow DIS students enrolled in the same summer session, arriving and departing together. In some residences, you might also have local students as flatmates, adding a unique cultural dimension to your experience.

Estimated Program Costs
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location. This will vary by program. The program fee below is for the 6-week Lab, Research, and Practicum Session and includes: Full tuition and fees; insurance; rental of a complete set of textbooks & photocopied handouts; all field study events; use of DIS facilities, including library and computer labs; and study tours that are included in classes.
Students who combine the 6-week Lab, Research and Practicum Session with Session III, will have to pay the DIS fees for the third session (approximately $4,700), and an additional study abroad fee of $305. Please see DIS website for costs associated with session III.
