Program Description
This two-week, interdisciplinary program includes lectures and demonstrations on various energy technologies; presentations on European and German history, geography, and culture; industrial tours; and sightseeing excursions to Berlin and Hamburg. Our hosts are faculty at the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences in Wolfenbuettel, Germany (near Braunschweig). This outstanding trip is extremely cost effective, on the order of $3,000 for two weeks in Germany and 3 Purdue credits!
The 2025 trip will take place from Sunday, May 11, 2025 through Saturday, May 24, 2025. An overview and detailed itinerary for the 2025 trip is available from the International Summer University website of Ostfalia University. The planned technical/cultural field trips include:

Academic Credit
Students will receive 3 credit hours in TECH 48155. Check with your advisor to see how this course aligns with your Plan of Study.
Eligibility
Students applying for this program must be in good standing at Purdue University. All Purdue University students are welcome, but the program content aligns particularly well with students from the School of Engineering Technology in the Polytechnic Institute or from Environmental & Ecological Engineering in the College of Engineering.
All students participating in a departmental program will complete a pre and post assessment as part of program completion.
Program Cost
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
The total cost of the trip is approximately $3,000. Itemized costs are:
$1,700 for fees paid to Purdue. This includes the course, lodging, transportation for program-led excursions, tickets to museums/events, and roughly 2/3 of the meals.
$1,000 for round trip airfare to/from Hanover, Germany (purchased individually by each student)
$300 for other expeditures - meals, souvenirs, etc.
This program is eligible for study abroad scholarship funding. Purdue Global Leaps Short Term Scholarship
This program is also eligible for funding through the Office of Experiential Education Experiential Education Scholarship
Application Deadline
This program can accommodate 16 students. Applications are accepted on a first come-first served basis. Admission will be stopped once the program is full. Apply by January 30, 2025 for priority consideration.
