Program Description

Sponsored in part by the Purdue Polytechnic Office of Globalization and the Bowen School of Construction Management, this international course examines contemporary European construction operations and historic restoration techniques across Ireland. Students explore both modern construction and historic restoration projects across Dublin, Cork, Cobh, Bunratty, and Galway. Through guest lectures and presentations from construction industry professionals and faculty at Technological University Dublin, participants gain a comprehensive understanding of Irish building practices and regulations. The curriculum is complemented by cultural excursions, including visits to the Guinness Storehouse, the General Post Office (site of the 1916 Easter Uprising), Christ Church Cathedral, Blarney Castle, Bunratty Folk Park/Castle, the Cliffs of Moher, the Cobh Heritage Centre, the Aran Islands, and Kylemore Abbey.

The 2027 Ireland Study Abroad course is co-led by Professor James L. Jenkins (co-leader TBD). The program leaders suggests that applicants read the study abroad summer handbook.
Academic Credit
Upon successful completion of this program, participants will earn three credit hours (tech elective) as CM 49900 (register for SA 10910).
A series of course meetings will take place in March/April 2027 prior to trip departure (dates/times TBD).
Eligibility
The course is limited to Purdue University students (WL or Indy campuses) in Construction Management/Design & Construction Integration/Interior Architecture/Virtual Design & Construction or a closely-related field within Polytechnic (with Program Leader's permission).
Enrollment is limited to TEN (10) Purdue University students! CMT/DCI/IA/VDC students are welcome to apply. Please contact Professor Jenkins at jenkinjl@purdue.edu to SCHEDULE AN INTERVIEW prior to submitting your application.
Program Cost
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.
Program Cost = $TBD—includes tuition, all hotel accommodations, some local transportation, bus tours, some meals, event tickets, group shirts, and trip insurance.
The $500 deposit will be applied to your program fee.
Costs not included: plane fare ($700-$1,200), other meals ($500), trains/taxis,/bikes ($200), passport ($175).
NOTE: Students plane fare varies with departure & return airports.
