Discover the rich agricultural traditions, food systems, and cultural heritage of northern and central Italy! Begin in Venice, where you’ll explore the unique lagoon agriculture of Sant’Erasmo and visit local producers who grow vegetables in the challenging conditions of a saltwater environment. Travel through the Veneto region to experience commercial horticulture and the famous Prosecco Hills, learning about vineyard management and wine production along the way.
Continue into Emilia-Romagna, one of Italy’s most important agricultural regions, where you’ll explore rice production, cattle farming, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese making, and modern agricultural technology. In Tuscany, visit the renowned Pistoia nursery district to learn about ornamental plant production before experiencing the region’s iconic cities and countryside. Explore Florence, Siena, and Pisa while gaining insight into Tuscan farm life, olive cultivation, and extra virgin olive oil production. Along the way, enjoy regional foods, tastings, farm visits, and opportunities to experience Italian culture firsthand.
