The three-week Leibniz University- German Engineering program is an English-language, project-oriented study program.
Under the guiding principle 'From Product Idea to Robot-Assisted Manufacturing,' students go through the entire development process—from the conception of a sustainable product through thermodynamic and mechatronic challenges to robot-assisted manufacturing.
The program combines specialized courses, hands-on exercises, and interdisciplinary project work with field trips and insights into research and industrial practice. In addition, participants gain familiarity with academic life and student life at Leibniz University Hannover and expand their intercultural competencies.
This program is intended for FYE students, as they prepare to begin coursework in the School of Mechanical Engineering.

Students interested in completing courses while abroad from Purdue colleges or departments that are not listed above should discuss this with their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.
During the program, two major thematic blocks will be covered: sustainable product development and automated manufacturing with robots. The program concludes with a final presentation and evaluation. Successful students will receive ME elective credit for coursework.
Located in the middle of the old town, students will stay in shared room housing with other students participants on the program. Students will have access to an onsite cafeteria, washer and dryer, and other reasonable amenities.
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location. This will vary by program. In addition to paying for 6 credits of Purdue tuition, students are responsible for paying the associated program fee directly to Leibniz University Hannover.
The additional program fee (listed in the additional costs section) covers housing, insurance, local transportation, excursions and organized social events. A deposit will be due at the program office in Germany within two weeks of acceptance. The deposit will be credited toward the program fee and is non-refundable.
Note that the program fee listed below is based on the exchange rate at the time of update and should act only as an estimate.
*The visa fee listed below is only necessary for Purdue international students who are citizens of countries required to get entry visas for Germany. Your study abroad advisor can provide more information about this.
