Overview

University of Hong Kong

Established in 1911, the University of Hong Kong (or HKU, as it is familiarly known to students) is the territory's oldest institution of higher learning. Over the past century, the University has grown with the city of Hong Kong and now consists of ten faculties. HKU is internationally recognized as a research-led comprehensive university, with frontier research endeavors and scholarly achievements that have won it worldwide acclaim.

A former British colony, Hong Kong is a place where east and west meet to create a truly unique culture. The world-class metropolis contains popular culinary spots, museums, and is known to be a shopper's paradise. Visitors can enjoy views of the city from high altitudes, sample local food, celebrate festivals, watch sports competitions, and visit movie settings in the city.

Eligibility

Please note:
  1. Courses offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) are highly competitive.
  2. Students who apply to FBE should have a grade level of B average / CGPA 3.0 / Satisfactory level.
  3. Students should have already completed the course prerequisites before requesting to enroll in courses with pre-requirements Co-registration (e.g taking Microeconomics I and II together in a semester) is not allowed.
  4. Economics and Finances courses highly emphasize mathematics. 
The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

GPA Requirement: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Students typically take courses through the Faculty of Business and Economics (HKU Business School).


Housing

Student residences and housing are called "halls" at HKU. There are at present thirteen halls, which vary considerably in size and character.
