Overview

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology- International Summer Program

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology offers Purdue undergraduates the opportunity to complete courses during the summer.  Students must enroll in at least two, three-credit course, and can complete as many as three courses.

Situated in the heart of Asia at the southern tip of China, Hong Kong is a unique place where you will find a fast-paced, 21st-century lifestyle interwoven with local traditions and countryside charms. Here, you can be a part of the city’s hustle and bustle in the morning, unplug with a stroll or hike along a picturesque beach or peak in the afternoon, and come evening, choose from an array of entertainment options. Hong Kong’s first-rate public transport system puts every corner within easy reach. And while you can go off to explore a nearby nature reserve or a sleepy fishing village, rest assured that Hong Kong offers all the conveniences of a world-class city.

Eligibility

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology- International Summer Program

The program is open to Purdue students in good standing who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity, and a desire to experience another culture.

GPA Requirement: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Language Requirement: none

Students interested in completing courses while abroad from Purdue colleges or departments that are not listed above should discuss this with their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.


Academic Program

Courses are offered by different schools of HKUST:

  • School of Science (SSCI)
  • School of Engineering (SENG)
  • School of Business and Management (SBM)
  • School of Humanities and Social Science (SHSS)
  • Interdisciplinary Programs Office (IPO)

Course offerings vary from year to year.



Excursions

Local tours will be arranged for the ISP participants.  Exact information about the tour destinations and costs will be announced in late spring.

Housing

Students will be housed in fully-furnished double or triple rooms in air-conditioned halls.  Common facilities include bathrooms, TV rooms, pantries with microwaves and laundries.  Pillows, linens and towels are not supplied. Meals are not included.

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. 

Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location.  This will vary by program.
