Program Description
Global Internship Program in Seoul Summer 2018 June 15- July 29------ Program Timeline - June 14 – June 28, 2018: Classes at Purdue University - June 30 – July 28, 2018: Classes and Internship in Seoul, South Korea --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Settings: The purpose of the study and internship experience is to introduce students to Korean society, culture, language, and professional practices in Seoul. South Korea. Participants are guaranteed an internship abroad with companies and organizations interested in working with Purdue students. Seoul is one of the optimal places for students to achieve significant professional and lifetime experience. Seoul is a global and cosmopolitan city to work, live and learn. As the nation’s capital, Seoul is the booming center of South Korean economy, ranked as the 5th largest exporter and 10th largest importer in the world. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On-site course will include cultural excursions, guest lectures and workshops, whose speakers include academics and business leaders. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Internship Opportunities As part of the program and the IDIS 490/IDIS 590 courses, students will participate in an internship experience related to their field of study. The following companies will offer internships: Deloitte Daelim Design Mall Chong-Kun-Dang Pharmaceutical Customer Insight Hyundai Investment NC-Soft Seoul National University Ehwa University Hanyang University and many more! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Housing Participants will stay in a hotel at Chunmuro Station. Amenities include bathrooms, internet lounge, 24-hour laundry rooms, gym, convenience store, cafeteria and coffee shop. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Academic Credit

All participants should take 3 courses (9 credit hours). Purdue based 2 weeks pre-departure courses will begin Thursday, June 16, 2016 on Purdue’s campus. The faculty leader from Purdue, Professor Yonsoo Kim will coordinate all courses. The following courses will be offered: -IDIS 490, IDIS 590: International Internship -IDIS 491: Korean Popular Culture -IDIS 591: "Glocal" Society, Food, and Culture

Eligibility

Open to all Purdue students from Liberal Arts, Management, Engineering, Science, HHS, Technology, Pre-Law, Pre-med, Pre-dentistry, Nursing, and other students with an interest in international careers, culture, and language.

Program Cost

The estimated program fee is $5900, which includes: - Professional internship tailored to your career interest with top global companies. - Housing with some meal passes. - 2 weeks of pre-travel instruction - Up to 9 credit hours. - Cultural excursions. - International Health Insurance -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Students participating in this program will be eligible for a $1000 travel scholarship through the study abroad office. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A $500 deposit is required to secure your internship placement. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The non-refundable deposit will be applied to the total cost of the program --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Students must budget additional funds for airfare, passport costs, daily transportation to internships, and personal expenses.
