Universidad del Norte

Founded in 1966 in the city of Barranquilla, the Universidad del Norte (Uninorte) is an institution dedicated to the well-rounded development of the individual at the higher education level. The university provides an environment of creative education and a campus where students can learn from the best and brightest teachers and make a positive difference in the community. UniNorte is a private university with around 10,000 students.

Barranquilla is a vivid, cosmopolitan, and industrial city located in the northern Caribbbean Coast region of Colombia. It is Colombia's fourth largest city with over two million people.

The spring semester typically runs from January - June.

The fall semester typically runs from July - November.

Eligibility

Universidad del Norte

The program is open to Purdue students who have completed at least two semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity and a desire to experience another culture.

This university offers some classes in English. Most classes are offered in Spanish and will require advanced Spanish language skills. You can also learn Spanish at Uninorte.

Excursions

UniNorte's international programs office arranges cultural activities, day trips, and excursions for its visiting students. Examples of possible activities are a Barranquilla city tour, visit to Casa del Carnaval, day trips to Cartagena and/or Santa Marta, an International Students Fair, and dance and cooking classes.


Housing

Uninorte assists students with locating accommodations for the semester. Options are family home stays, room rentals, or apartment rentals with other international students.

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. 

Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location.  This will vary by program.
