Program Description

Push yourself out of your comfort zone and join this study abroad in India over spring break! The program will begin in Chennai, where you will visit the Bay of Bengal and other cultural sites. You will visit the Chennai campus of the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) and meet with students. Then on the Vellore and the main campus. For several days you will work with VIT students on design projects and community work while visiting sites like the Golden Temple. Students will be exposed to the higher education system in India while working with VIT students to use engineering design principles to deliver solutions to the community partners in Vellore. Students will also gain an appreciation for the growing high tech industry in India.

Academic Credit

Students will earn 3 credits for ME 497 or EPICS 49000. Check with your academic advisor to see how this can be used in your plan of study.


Engineering students freshman through juniors are eligible to apply. Citizens of India are not eligible.

Program Cost

Estimated program cost is $2072 which includes the group flight, housing, most meals, ground transportation, 3 credits, insurance, and excursions. Additional costs would be a few meals, Visa, passport, immunizations, and personal spending money. **All eligible undergraduates will receive the $500 Purdue Moves scholarship** lowering the cost to approximately $1572.
