Our exchange program with Waseda University offers Purdue students the opportunity to:

  • Enroll in English-taught coursework
  • Learn or continue learning Japanese Language
  • Live alongside locals and form lifelong relationships

University: Since its founding in the late 19th century, Waseda University has been producing distinguished global leaders including several Japanese Prime Ministers, international business leaders, and academics. The university welcomes over 50,000 students annually, including about 5,000 international students.

Location: Located in Tokyo, Waseda University combines the academic rigor of a prestigious university with the excitement of the city.

Eligibility

The program is open to College of Engineering or College of Liberal Arts students who have completed at least 4 semesters of university study by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity and a desire to experience another culture.

GPA Requirement: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Language Requirement: 2 Sem Japanese

Students interested in completing courses while abroad from Purdue colleges or departments that are not listed above should discuss this with their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.


Academic Program

Language of Instruction: English & Japanese

Semester Course Load: Minimum of 12 US Credit Hours

Students should plan to take most, if not all, of their courses within the same academic area. With permission of the instructor students may be able to enroll in courses outside of their discipline


Excursions

Waseda University works in cooperation with organizations in and outside of the university to provide numerous extracurricular activities throughout the year including interesting discussions, lectures, field trips, and volunteer projects.


Housing

Waseda University provides dormitories managed by the university as well as dormitories run by affiliated organizations. Each dorm has programs and events designed to make the most of your time as an international student at Waseda. Waseda dormitories are located within a short walking distance of campus.
