Overview
Students applying for programs in Spain must have a valid, usable passport at the time of application. Passport must be valid for 1 year after the program end date.
How does one event like the Olympic Games impact a city’s economy? Students will explore this, the challenges facing European economies, and more in Barcelona on CIEE's Economics and Culture program. Participants enroll in courses in a world-renowned economics program, live with a local family, pursue an internship, and go on a variety of cultural activities and excursions – all with the goal to gain insight into business and economics in Barcelona, Spain, and Europe.

Eligibility
Students applying for programs in Spain must have a valid, usable passport at the time of application. Passport must be valid for 1 year after the program end date.
The program is open to Purdue students who have reached junior standing by the start of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic success, maturity and a desire to experience another culture.
Prerequisite: 3 semesters of college-level economics and 1 semester calculus

Students interested in completing courses while abroad from Purdue colleges or departments that are not listed above should discuss this with their study abroad advisor before applying to the program.
Academic Program
Students enroll in 4-5 courses during the program and can pick from two tracks - on either track at least one course must be in business, economics, management, or marketing.
Track 1: UPF (Universitat Pompeu Fabra) - take one course at UPF and 3-4 CIEE-taught electives
Track 2: UAB (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona) - take one course at UAB and 3-4 CIEE-taught electives
Please note that while CIEE offers the opportunity to take online coursework through ASU Online, Purdue students are not permitted to enroll in these options during the program and must take their coursework directly through CIEE and/or the local partner universities they partner with (where applicable).

Excursions
The program will offer several excursions, which may be day or overnight trips. Please see the CIEE website for more details.
Housing
CIEE will arrange housing for students in one of the following options. Please note that housing is tight in Barcelona, if your first choice is not available CIEE will let you know before arrival. All housing is within a 30 minute commute to the CIEE center.
Homestays. Live with a Spanish-speaking family -- with or without another CIEE student -- and immerse yourself in the city’s language and culture. Each student has an individual room and weekly laundry service. Homestay students have breakfast and dinner with their host families, and they are responsible for lunch.
Residence Halls. Students live with other Spanish and international students. Students share kitchens and common areas. No meals are included.
Apartments. Students can live in apartments shared with other CIEE students. No meals are included.
Estimated Program Costs
Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss. Students should carefully note what costs need to be paid to Purdue University or to a co-sponsor or agency, and what costs need to be paid at the overseas study location. This will vary by program. The Program and Housing Fees include: Tuition, on-site orientation, housing, and excursions. Depending on the housing choice, some meals might be included.
