Please note that the dates above are departure dates. The program begins on May 7, 2018 with one week of classes on Purdue's campus and then continuing in Peru through June 21, 2018, and if you desire to stay for 11 weeks, you can stay doing internship until July 19, 2018.

Do you want an internship?  Have you ever wanted to study abroad?  Why not do both at the same time! Purdue Students are invited to take part in the Lima Summer 2018 Internship Program in Lima, Peru. Participants are guaranteed an internship abroad with companies and organizations interested in working with Purdue students . 

Knowledge of Spanish level 10100 is strongly recommended, and higher levels are welcomed.  You will have the opportunity to complete up to nine credit hours in Spanish language, South American culture, and course credits for your internship.   In addition to gaining on-the-job work experience and Purdue course credits, you will have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit Machu Picchu and explore other historic sites in Peru.

  • IDIS 49000: Global Internship
  • Spanish 10100, 10200, 20100, 20200, 30100, 30200 or arrange Spanish language credits
  • LALS 250: Latin American Culture

Program Structure

May 7 - May 12, 2018: Program participants will attend classes on Purdue's campus. Class times and locations will be announced at a later date, but will follow a typical Maymester time period. 

May 13- June 21 : Program participants will report to their internship placements from 8AM - 5PM or 9AM -  5PM Monday-Friday. Participants will engage in coursework from 6 - 8PM Monday-Friday.

Program Costs

This 7- or 11-week program includes
 

  • professional internship tailored to your career interest with some of Lima's top companies
  • guest lectures and networking with Peruvian business leaders, and Purdue Alumni 
  • hotel accommodations (triple or double occupancy) at the Hotel San Antonio Abad. The hotel is the heart of Lima's Miraflores District.  It has WiFi, a breakfast buffet, a garden area and a gated entrance.
  • one week of pre-travel education - orientation and coursework
  • 9 Purdue credits - tuition is included in the total cost
  • all excursion entrance fees and transportation for Machu Picchu, Cusco, Plaza de Armas, Cathedral, Church of San Francisco, and House of Literature
  • farewell reception

All this and so much more, for just $6900 (approx)
Airfare and any additional personal travel or expenditures not included.

This program qualifies for a $2000 travel scholarship through the study abroad office. Go to to complete the process.


**A $500 deposit is required to secure your internship placement. The non-refundable deposit will be applied to the total cost of the program.

Application process: all applicants will meet one on one with Prof. S. No to interview for a position on the program. The applicants will also submit their resume and 1 letter of recommendation along with their Study Abroad application through the Purdue Study Abroad website.

If approved for an internship, the applicant will secure his/her placement on the program by submitting the $500 deposit. The first 25 approved students who submit deposits are guaranteed a position in the program.

Academic Credit

Total of 9 Purdue academic credits: 1. SPANISH 102, 201, 202, 301, 302 or a Spanish course arranged with Prof. No (3 credits) 2. Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS) 250: Intro. to Latin Am. and Latino Studies (3 credits) 3. Interdisciplinary Studies (IDIS) 490 or 491: Internship (3 credits)

Motivated Purdue undergraduate and graduate students (from all campuses, including West Lafayette and the other regional campuses)

Program Cost

For 7 weeks: $6,899.47 (including Heath Insurance, Purdue Study Abroad Fees and Program Fees) and for 11 weeks: $9,236.17 (including Heath Insurance, Purdue Study Abroad Fees and Program Fees) If you receive a Purdue Move Summer Scholarship of $2,000, for 7 weeks: $6,899.47 - $2,000 = $4,899.47 for 11 weeks: $9,236.17 - $2,000 = $7,236.17
