Program Description

Please note that the dates above are departure dates. The program begins on Monday, May 9, 2022. Then we will have one week of intensive program on Purdue's campus from Monday, May 9, 2022 to Saturday, May 14, 2022. Then the entire program group will travel to Lima on Monday, May 16, 2022. There we will continue the program in Peru through Friday, June 10, 2022, and if you desire to stay for 6 additional weeks, you can stay doing internship until July 22, 2022.

Do you want an internship?  Have you ever wanted to study abroad?  Why not do both at the same time! Purdue Students are invited to take part in the 2022 Lima Internship and Study Abroad Program in Lima, Peru. Participants are guaranteed an internship abroad with companies and organizations interested in working with Purdue students . 

Knowledge of Spanish level 10100 is strongly recommended, and higher levels are welcomed.  You will have the opportunity to complete up to nine credit hours in Spanish language, South American culture, and course credits for your internship.   In addition to gaining on-the-job work experience and Purdue course credits, you will have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit Machu Picchu and explore other historic sites in Peru.

Program Timeline

May 9 - May 14, 2022 -Classes at Purdue, West Lafayette
May 17 - June 10, 2022-Classes in Lima, Peru

May 17 - July 22, 2022-Internship in Lima, Peru


Earn 6 credit hours (if you participate in the 5-week program) or 9 credit hours (if you participate in the 11-week program) of 

  • IDIS 49000: Global Internship (only if you participate in the 11-week program)
  • Spanish 10100, 10200, 20100, 20200, 30100, 30200 or arrange Spanish language credits
  • LALS 250: Latin American Culture

*Please note that program directors are willing to work with students on independent study courses as part of this program.

Program Structure

May 9- May 14, 2022: Program participants will attend classes on Purdue's campus. Class times and locations will be announced at a later date, but will follow a typical Maymester time period. 

May 17- June 10,2022 : Program participants willl engage in coursework and cultural activities. (if you participate in the 5-week program)

May 17- July 22,2022 : Program participants willl engage in internship, coursework and cultural activities.(if you participate in the 11-week program)

Program Costs

This 5- or 11-week program includes

  • professional internship tailored to your career interest with some of Lima's top companies
  • guest lectures and networking with Peruvian business leaders, and Purdue Alumni 
  • hotel accommodations (triple or double occupancy) at the Hotel San Antonio Abad. The hotel is the heart of Lima's Miraflores District.  It has WiFi, a breakfast buffet, a garden area and a gated entrance.
  • one week of pre-travel education - orientation and coursework
  • 6 Purdue credits (for the 5-week participants) or 9 credits (for the 11-week participants) - tuition is included in the total cost
  • all excursion entrance fees and transportation for Machu Picchu, Cusco, Plaza de Armas, Cathedral, Church of San Francisco, and House of Literature
  • farewell reception

All this and so much more, for just $5499 (approx)

This program qualifies up to a $3000 scholarship through the study abroad office if you are eligible. Please check your eligibility in the Purdue Move Summer Scholarship website:

**A $500 deposit is required to secure your internship placement. The non-refundable deposit will be applied to the total cost of the program. You must make this payment online:


Application process: all applicants will meet one on one with Prof. S. No to interview for a position on the program. The applicants will also submit their resume and 1 letter of recommendation along with their Study Abroad application through the Purdue Study Abroad website.

If approved for an internship, the applicant will secure his/her placement on the program by submitting the $500 deposit. The first 25 approved students who submit deposits are guaranteed a position in the program.

Academic Credit

Total of 6 or 9 Purdue academic credits:

1. SPANISH 102, 201, 202, 301, 302 or a Spanish course arranged with Prof. No (3 credits)

2. Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS) 250: Intro. to Latin Am. and Latino Studies (3 credits)

3. Interdisciplinary Studies (IDIS) 490 or 491: Internship (3 credits) (only for the participants of the 11-week program)


Motivated Purdue undergraduate and graduate students (from all campuses, including West Lafayette and the other regional campuses)

Program Cost

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.

For 5 weeks: approximately $5499 (including Heath Insurance, Purdue Study Abroad Fees and Program Fees)

and for 11 weeks: approximately $8398 (including Heath Insurance, Purdue Study Abroad Fees and Program Fees) If you receive a Purdue Move Summer Scholarship: for 5 weeks, up to $2500 (which may mean $5499-$2500=$2999 and for 11 weeks, up to $3000 (which can mean $8398 - $3000 = $5298).
