For Ten-Week Participants with Internships and Study Abroad Program?

Lima : May 6 to July 12, 2024

Do you want an internship?  Have you ever wanted to study abroad?  Why not do both at the same time! Purdue Students are invited to take part in the 2023 Lima Internship and Study Abroad Program in Lima, Peru. 10-week participants are guaranteed an internship abroad with companies and organizations interested in working with Purdue students . 

Knowledge of Spanish level 10100 is strongly recommended, and higher levels are welcomed.  You will have the opportunity to complete up to nine credit hours in Spanish language, South American culture, and course credits for your internship.   In addition to gaining on-the-job work experience and Purdue course credits, you will have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit Machu Picchu and explore other historic sites in Peru.


Academic Credit

Classes

12 credit hours for 10-week participants and 9 credit hours for 6-week participants:

  • For Ten-Week Participation: 12 credits

    1. Spanish Course (3 credits)
    2. SPAN 280 or LALS 250: Intro to Latin American Culture (3 credits)
    3. SPAN 380 or IDIS 490: Global Internshp (6 credits)

     

    For Six-Week Participation: 9 credits

    1. Spanish Course (3 credits)
    2. SPAN 280 or LALS 250: Intro to Latin American Culture (3 credits)
    3. SPAN 380 or IDIS 490: Global Internship (3 credits)

*Please note that program directors are willing to work with students on independent study courses as part of this program.

Immediate Internship Opportunities (First come first serve)

Lima Internship and Study Abroad has intership opportunities for almost all Purdue majors.  Prof. No will work with each individual participant to match an internship placement. Below is a sample of the companies and organization you can secure internship positions right away:

4 positions of Computer Engineering, Computer Science or IT related

2 positions of Civil Engineering

2 positions of Aerospace Engineering

1 position of Agricultural and Biological Engineering

1 position of Mechanical Engineering

1 Vet Medicine Assistant

1 Environmental Engineering

1 Biological Engineering

2 Archeologist Assistant

2 Physical Therapies -- Psychology, Kinesiology , SLHS majors

Motivated Purdue Undergraduate Students (from all campuses, including West Lafayette and the other regional campuses)

Program Cost

Students pursuing program participation accept financial responsibility. Purdue will take measures to mitigate financial risks, although will not be liable for loss.

 
  1. A -- 6 weeks: approximately $6,498 (Purdue Study Abroad fees and International Health Insurance included) ESTIMATED

6-week program offers

  • professional internship tailored to your career interest with some of Lima's top companies
  • guest lectures and networking with Peruvian business leaders, and Purdue Alumni 
  • hotel accommodations (triple or double occupancy) for the first week of the program, and then living with a host family in Lima.
  • 9 credits - tuition is included in the total cost
  • all excursion entrance fees and transportation for Machu Picchu, Cusco, Plaza de Armas, Cathedral, Church of San Francisco, and House of Literature
  • farewell reception

2. B. after 6 weeks, you can extend 4 addtional weeks: approximately $2,500 (Purdue Study Abroad fees and International Health Insurance included) ESTIMATED

10-week program includes:

  • professional internship tailored to your career interest with some of Lima's top companies
  • guest lectures and networking with Peruvian business leaders, and Purdue Alumni 
  • hotel accommodations (triple or double occupancy) for the first week of the program, and then living with a host family in Lima.
  • 12 credits - tuition is included in the total cost
  • all excursion entrance fees and transportation for Machu Picchu, Cusco, Plaza de Armas, Cathedral, Church of San Francisco, and House of Literature
  • farewell reception

Airfare and any additional personal travel or expenditures (daily commute to internship) are not included.

This program participants can be qualified up to a $2200 scholarship through the study abroad office if you are eligible. Please check your eligibility in the https://www.purdue.edu/ippu/sa/financialresources/sa-office-based/purdue-moves-summer.html

**A $500 deposit is required to secure your internship placement. This amount will be credited towards the payment of your program fees. The non-refundable deposit will be applied to the total cost of the program. You must make this payment online: https://www.studyabroad.purdue.edu/resource/DepositOnline.pdf

Application process

All applicants will meet one on one with Prof. S. No to interview for a position on the program. The applicants will also submit their resume and 1 letter of recommendation along with their Study Abroad application through the Purdue Study Abroad website.

If approved for an internship, the applicant will secure his/her placement on the program by submitting the $500 deposit. The first 25 approved students who submit deposits are guaranteed a position in the program.
