Academic Program

IFSA’s Study in Buenos Aires program provides a compelling curriculum that’s taught in English and focuses on psychology, neuroscience, and Spanish. Crafted for U.S. degree requirements and contemporary hot topics, you can select four to five IFSA classes for a total of 12-16 U.S. semester credit hours.

For students with little to no Spanish background, you can enroll in a 1-credit Essential Spanish course to learn key words and phrases for venturing out into the city and communicating effectively.  Students who have already studied Spanish can continue their learning with 3-credit Spanish classes.

Classes may vary by semester based on faculty availability and student interest.

Please see IFSA's website for the most up-to-date class offerings.

Students may also participate in directed research or an internship that places them with a local non-profit organization or company (4 semesters of Spanish required).

Excursions

IFSA excursions are included in your total program fee and though these are optional, most students choose to participate. They vary each term based on availability, but excursions may include:

  • Tigre Delta del Parana Trip: This overnight excursion to the Tigre Delta includes a boat ride and offers a glimpse into the contrasts between wetlands and island living and the big-city life in Buenos Aires.
  • Jujuy Trip: Embark on an unforgettable two-night trip to Jujuy, where the breathtaking landscapes of Argentina's northwestern province awaits. Experience the vibrant culture and stunning natural beauty of this region, from the multi-hued hills of the Quebrada de Huma Huaca, to the serene salt flats of Salinas Grandes.

Housing

HOMESTAY

A homestay is with a local family and includes two meals per day. You will typically have a single bedroom with a bed, shared bathroom, and a desk or other designated place to study. Laundry is included.

APARTMENTS

Students who choose this option live in modern, furnished apartments selected by IFSA in the Palermo Chico neighborhood. Palermo Chico is part of the larger Palermo area in the northeast part of the city. It’s a safe neighborhood, known for diversity, green spaces, and upscale restaurants and shops.

There are two options. You can share a two-bedroom apartment with one other IFSA student or choose a single studio space with kitchen and bathroom. Please keep in mind that both apartment options include an additional fee.
