Program Description

The Republic of Singapore has an impressive array of civil engineering infrastructure.  The country has been described as the most “technology-ready” nation (2015 Global Technology Report of the World Economic Forum)

Intelligent Infrastructure (at the Phase of Infrastructure Operations)

Means: Real-time monitoring control of infrastructure attributes:

  • Stresses, strains, deflections at all critical locations of the infrastructure
  • Users coming and going, heating, cooling, ventilation, air conditions, water flows and water use, energy flows, air circulations, emissions, etc...
  • Security and safety threats (man-made intentional, man-made unintentional, natural)

Real-time means: "as it is happening" not delayed information

  • Gain awareness of different cultures and develop intercultural knowledge, skills, and attitudes
  • Learn to work successfully in a multicultural environment, including verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Gain knowledge of engineering preparations in Singapore regarding risk assessment and mitigation of civil engineering infrastructure in anticipation of climate change. Most of the country is at or close to sea level.
  • Learn how a space-challenged country manages to achieve efficiency in infrastructure operations through the use of intelligent equipment including sensors and information technology, civil engineering skills, analytical tools, and management principles.

Eligibility

Open to all engineering undergraduates from sophomore-seniors

Program Cost

Estimated cost is $3000 ($2000 with Purdue Moves Scholarship)

Additional expenses are: airfare, meals, and passport
