Program Description

Join Prof. Carl Wassgren in Sweden in May 2020 to complete the core engineering course, ME 200 Thermodynamics.  This is the same course you would take at Purdue, taught by a Purdue professor.  

 

Course Highlights: 

Class each week day morning at KTH, the Royal Swedish Institute of Technology-9am-12pm.  Afternoons and evenings are free for homework or to attend office  hours.  Prof. Wassgren and a TA will hold office hours each week day from 2-5 on the KTH Campus. 

Weekends are free for exploration of Stockholm and the surroundinig areas. 

Guided tour of Swedish Parliament in Stockholm 

Stockholm public transportation pass included 

At least 2 cultural excursions in the Stockholm area- TBD 

Site visit to Waste to Energy Plant. 

One long weekend, May 29-31- trip to Kiruna, Sweden in the Arctic Cirlce to visit the famous Ice Hotel, LKAB Iron Mine, and a cultural experience with the Samì pepole, the indigenous Reindeer herders of Swedish Lapland. 

Students will be housed in six person rooms with private bath in Generator Hostel Only Purdue students housed in the rooms.  Modest breakfast provided each morning (cereal, coffee, rolls, fruit, cheese, juice) 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Academic Credit

Earn 3 credits for ME 200 Thermodynamics 

Eligibility

Minimum GPA 3.0.  Open to all Engineering students in good academic standing that have ME 200 in their plan of study.  All acceptance decisions are made by Prof. Wassgren.  Check with your academic advisor if you are unsure if you need this course in your particular plan of study.  

**Due to the accelerated pace of this course, students with a GPA less than 3.0 cannot be considered.  Before applying, consider your past performance in technical courses**

**Non-US citizens- the Consulate of Sweden where you need to submit your visa application is in Washington DC.  You  must appear in person as they do not accept mailed in documents.  The Chicago Consulate does not accept applications.  Please be sure you completely understand the visa process and the costs involved**

Program Cost

Estimated program cost is $3600.   Program fees include:  Housing, academic credits, weekend excursion to Kiruna, any course excursions on the itinerary, a few meals, Stockholm transportatation pass, and international health inssurance. 

Additional costs:  RT airfare, Passport, text book or class materials, most meals, and personal spending money or excursions.
