Global Internship Course
3 credits

- Instructor: CAPA International Education Adjunct Instructor
This course focuses on building personal and professional skills with the intention of preparing students to articulate their learning to future employers and or graduate schools. The virtual in-class active learning approach gives students the opportunity to discuss and analyze theories and models of work and to compare and contrast global organizational behavior and management in a cross-cultural context. A variety of teaching and learning activities will be used, for example: lecture, workshop, discussion, informal and formal presentations, self-guided and guided research, and mock interviews.

Through CAPA’s virtual co-curricular program, My Global City, a rich and varied calendar of online events, lectures, and reflective sessions will be available to all participants. My Global City events empower students to analyze and explore their global city in a manner that is relevant to their studies and personal interests. Sample virtual activities include:

  • A virtual cooking class
  • Visiting a virtual museum exhibition
  • Streaming a free theater performance
  • A virtual walking tour of city neighborhoods

Activities are either self-directed or led by CAPA staff/faculty. Additionally, faculty can recommend or require participation in certain activities to connect classroom-based learning and the global cities.

Application Deadlines

For full consideration, students must submit all supporting documents before or by the application deadline.  Popular programs fill quickly, often before the deadline.  To insure a place in a program, apply early.

As soon as a student submits an online application, a My Study Abroad account is created. Applicants should consult this page often to check on the status of the application.

Application Process for Purdue’s Summer Internship Programs:

The preliminary application includes: the online study abroad application, a transcript, essay, and two recommendations (one academic recommendation on the form that you can submit electronically from your MyStudyAbroad page and one work-related recommendation on company letterhead from any current or previous job or internship supervisor).

The preliminary application must be submitted to Programs for Study Abroad by February 1, 2021.

**We will begin reviewing completed applications in early January; the program could potentially fill up before the deadline. It is imperative, however, that the preliminary application is complete by the deadline at the very latest!**

Once students are conditionally accepted into the program, they must attend a mandatory advising session in February (date and time: TBD). Students must be present for the entire session.

During the advising session students will receive further instructions on completing the rest of the internship application, including resume, cover letter, and other additional paperwork.

Upon full acceptance into the program, students are expected to pay a non-refundable confirmation deposit to ensure their participation in the program.
